Pack Square Conservancy
Mission & Responsibilities
Pack Square Conservancy was established in October 2000 by a citizens’ task force that included downtown stakeholders, interested citizens, business owners and elected officials. Its purpose was to plan, design, and build Pack Square Park in the city’s historic central square. The Conservancy was charged with obtaining public input and participation in the process. In addition, the Conservancy was made responsible for raising money for construction of the park and at least $2 million to establish an endowment for long-term maintenance and capital improvements.
The formal mission of the Conservancy is as follows:
“To fulfill the vision of Pack Square and City-County Plaza as a vibrant town square and public park, providing citizens and visitors to the region with a social, economic and cultural center that celebrates the area’s unique character.”
Pack Square Conservancy welcomes questions and comments at 828/252-2300, or at One West Pack Square, Suite 513, Asheville, NC 28801. The Conservancy works to carry out its mission in a way that will allow Pack Square Park to realize the vision of the community in terms of:
Service to people of all ages and backgrounds
Creation of new educational opportunities for people of the region
Celebration of the history and culture of the region
Celebration of our beautiful mountain environment and native flora
Celebration and nurturing of our sense of community
